The base game introduces players to a 5×5 grid with 45 lines. Its base game is entertaining, but the main attraction is the Free Spins bonus game which starts once you collect three Diamond Scatters (or 2 Diamonds + one Dice symbol).

The Dice symbol can fall only the fifth reel and replaces the Scatters. If you trigger Free Spins with one Dice symbol, a dice will be added to the dice tally in the Free Spins.

At the start of the Free Spins bonus round, you are introduced to a game that resembles a game of Ludo but there’s only one player (you). You use the red die to roll and see how many moves ahead your figurine will take on the board. The path runs around the board, while the centre of the board is reserved for a 5×5 grid that spins and displays only Multipliers.

Now, the bonus game starts with a spin counter set to 3. The grid in the middle of the board spins in the hope of landing a Multiplier. Each time a Multiplier lands, the spin counter resets to 3. The round ends once you hit zero and have no Extra Lives to prolong the game.

Red dice can also land on the grid. When they do, you get to roll it to move your figurine. The board on which the figurine moves is peppered with several bonus spots, each representing another special feature. Those are:

• Finn Feature: If the figurine lands on Finn’s tile, the leprechaun adds +5 up to 5 Multipliers on the board.
• Gonzo Feature: Gonzo is also all about the Multipliers. He increases up to 24 Multipliers on the board by 2x, 3x, or 5x.
• Miss Banks: She flicks golden coins in the air which landed on the grid. This may add values from 1x to 5x to up to 15 random Multipliers on the board.
• Space Wars: Brute is the tiny alien icon which increases the number of spins by adding +3. He also clones the three highest Multipliers and drops their clones on the grid during those respins!
• Starburst: The colourful star shoots onto the grid and adds stacked Multipliers in three positions ranging from 2x to 5x.
• Extra Spin: Extra Spin resets the bonus counter and adds 1 to the cap, so you get to spin 4 times instead of 3.
• Extra Life: An extra life means you are protected from the end of the round even if you run out of spins. An Extra Life resets the spin counter to 3 (or 4 if you have activated Extra Spin).

To be honest, Superstars slot both did and did not meet our expectations. On the one hand, we have all these legendary characters from popular slots that we know and love, and they are all together in this one slot which is super exciting for all NetEnt fans. And honestly, they are all great, but the saturation with features reads too much Evolution rather than NetEnt.

What we mean by that is that the game is released by NetEnt and it features a plethora of NetEnt characters, but the vibe is Evolution. The bonus game reminded us of Evolution’s Big Baller and Monopoly Live bit. Don’t get us wrong, we don’t consider that an overly bad thing, it’s just the vibe is different.
