BACCARAT OVERVIEW & BEST GAMES TO TRY IN 2024

For some of the ladies out there Ian Fleming’s James Bond – and his debut novel from 1953, Casino Royale – might be the first association to Baccarat but the history of this card game goes much further in time.

It’s a less known fact that the game of baccarat was invented in Italy in the 1400s. The father of baccarat is said to be the man under the name of Felix Falguiere who first named it ‘baccara’ which is Italian for “zero”. Why zero? Simply because all tens and face cards were worth exactly that amount – zero.

An even lesser-known story – more than a fact – is a direct correlation between baccarat and women. The game of baccarat was said to be based on the ancient Etruscan legend of a virgin who was forced to throw a nine-sided dice in order to determine her own fate. An eight (8) or a nine (9) would have elevated to the heights of a priestess. A six (6) or (7) would have kept her alive but deprived of taking any part in the community. Numbers lower than six would have had her thrown to the bottom of a sea.

Casino Chick has a soft spot in her heart for stories such as this one so we’ll move on into the most recent history of this intriguing game to explain it in detail for our fellow lady gamblers. Once it hit the French shores, baccarat started achieving its widespread popularity – stemming from chambers of the French nobles all the way to elite echelons around the globe as the jet setters’ exclusive property before it hit the widespread casino glory.

How to Play Online Baccarat?

In order to break it to the simplest of rules behind the game of baccarat we’ll start by saying it’s a card game played with one to eight standard 52-card decks. The object of baccarat is to predict who will draw the higher hand – the player, the banker or a tie – which in a way makes it similar to the game of Blackjack.

It should be noted, however, that Player, Banker and Tie stand for three different betting areas where you need to guess which one will yield a hand closer to nine (9). Once you have placed your bet at the desired area, the dealer deals out the cards. Two each go for both player and banker with the closest to nine winning. Player’s wins double your original bet whereas the Banker’s wins pay out 95% of your wager. The third betting option – a Tie – pays out 8-to-1 and occurs when both the Player and Banker hands result in the same value.

Unlike in Blackjack, where you bust on a card count exceeding 21, card value greater than nine in baccarat will have you adding two cards together and dropping the first digit (1 or 2) to get the desired value. Side bets are a common occurrence in the world of baccarat both offline and online. The most popular are called Player Pair, Banker Pair, Either Pair, Perfect Pair – all involving a bet on first two cards.

Baccarat is indeed an intriguing and, in terms of rules and mechanics, a rather comprehensive game this review cannot even begin to describe. Not to mention that the top casinos online for women offer this game in its live dealer version. Live Baccarat is combining the best of both worlds – online and offline – creating an ultimate experience for enthusiastic lady gamblers.

The best way to learn how to play this game is to head straight over to some of the most respectable casinos – such as those listed on this page – and dive right into the beautiful world of baccara(t).

Most Popular Types and Variations of Baccarat

The game of baccarat comes in various shapes and forms. Variations to this highly entertaining and a rather elaborate game are plenty I won’t be getting into the tiniest of details as it would take a lot more than a general baccarat overview to cover it all.

Played both for fun, enjoyment and thrill but also for serious payouts, different types of baccarat often involve strategies that help players increase their chances of winning. If any of you wants to become a baccarat pro, Casino Chick advises you to sit your behinds in a chair and learn everything there is to know about the Fibonacci and Paroli systems, known as positive and negative approaches of betting. Don’t mean to bore you into this, so let’s get back to the subject. Types of baccarat, right on:

  • Punto Banco
  • Midi and Mini punto
  • Super 6/Punto 2000
  • Chemin de Fer
  • EZ Baccarat
  • Baccarat à Deux Tableaux (Baccarat Banque)
  • Macao

BACCARAT TYPES EXPLAINED

There are several popular types of Baccarat played online and out team here at CasinoChick.com gives you a lowdown on all of them:

PUNTO BANCO

Casino baccarat games played throughout the establishments in the United States – but also UK, Canada and Australia as most notable markets – are referred to as Punto Banco games. Apart from the obvious difference in wording, mostly everything else makes baccarat and punto banco appear like the two sides of the same coin. Punto (Player) Banco (Banker) are is a nutshell designation for the two hands the bettor can back and punto banco as a baccarat variation is a slightly more modern and a contemporary approach to this game.

MIDI AND MINI PUNTO

This is not a story of your grandma’s FIAT punto, ladies. These two variations of baccarat are the smaller versions of the game. Midi Punto involves only one croupier whereas the table in Mini Punto is no larger than a standard blackjack table which is a stark contrast to a standard, full-size baccarat table.

SUPER 6/PUNTO 2000

While the Banker bets come with 5% commission in classical baccarat, this type of the game comes without it. There is a twist, obviously, and it occurs once the banker wins with six (6). This means you lose half of your bet and get 50% of it back. Furthermore, while regular baccarat game comes with a house edge of 1.05%, this particular version of the game involves a house edge of 1.48%.

CHEMIN DE FER

The most vintage variation of the game, Chemin de fer stands for Railway in French and it’s a rather quicker game than the original baccarat. It’s the most popular type of baccarat in France. It’s played with six (6) decks of cards with players sitting around an oval table and the play unfolding counterclockwise. There’s more to the rules here but we’ll leave them for you to discover on your own.

EZ BACCARAT

Not very different to baccarat (and punto banco) when it comes to the actual playing rules, EZ Baccarat involves a slightly improver payout for the Banker bet. And while we can expect odds of 19 to 20 in the classical variations, here it stands even (1/1). Before you get to excited, do note that a banker win with a total point of seven and holds three cards, it’s considered a push and you don’t get any money. With this in mind, EZ baccarat comes with a slightly smaller house edge of 1.018%.

BACCARAT BANQUE

You don’t need to understand French in order to realize that this particular variation of baccarat is all about the Banker. Its position is more pronounced than in all popular types of the game. What do I mean? Well, if you’re willing to risk the largest amount, you’ll get the banker and you will hold office until all cards have been dealt. Ready for that kind of risk, lady?
